Winter illuminations and reflections around JR Osaka Station

At this time of year when darkness falls so early in the less colorful part of the world,
I like to go out for winter illuminations.
I strolled around JR Osaka Station feeling the warmth of the city’s hospitality.

(Old post: Night stroll at the Grand Front Osaka, 2013)

I am so thankful to electricity, light bulbs, and recent energy-saving LED lighting
as I imagine how awfully dim the world was before electricity.

With so many serious problems arising as the civilization has come so far,
people are concerned about the future world and generation
but these lighting made me feel hopeful that there must be brilliant creative minds
who will work enthusiastically to solve the daunting problems of the time in each era ahead.

Multi-storied passage ways connect the station and the South and North Buildings
of the Grand Front Osaka Complex.

From the bridge passage-way connecting South and North Buildings.

A graceful, majestic Christmas tree changes its color from white to rose and blue
in the light reflected from the mirror-ball.

Now I moved to the Toki no Hiroba (Time & Space Plaza) of Osaka Station City.

Osaka Station City's landmark is a large glass roof that spans over the railway tracks.
Toki no Hiroba is right under the big glass roof.

Multidimensional reflections are seen from the open space Toki no HIroba
overlooking the railway tracks.

The small Tsurun Tsurun Skate Rink is across from JR Osaka Station.
The rink can operate in warm temperatures and consumes no electricity
because it is not made of ice but a type of plastic with wax coating
which is 90% as slippery as ice.

This post is my last one in 2016.
Many thanks for your kind comments, thoughts, inspiration, and encouragement
throughout the year.
See you in 2017!

Gorgeos pictures made me feel a bit of festive mood in Osaka. It is great to see Japan with your eyes, Yoko. Thank you very-very much! Your generosity of spirit fills this blog making all your readers happier and willing to come back.

  9. I would miss the beautiful magic your photos show and that electricity brings, especially in the winter. Occasionally when we have windstorms, the lights go out and so do all the many, many aspects of everyday life. No computers, toasters or coffee percolators to start the day. Darkness would cover the world early like a blanket in winter with only lit candles to bring sparkle to the night. But although life would be entirely different without electricity, I would still be wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas, stardust, and a very Happy New Year!

  11. Yes how would the world look when there was no electricity. A whole new year to come. But I have to tell you I am also worried what is going on in the world. But we stay positive don't we. It seems like people can't communicate with eachother on a normallevel anymore. Lets pray for peace in the world.
Wonderful christmas and most important all the best wishes for a great health in 2017.

  12. What a lovely post, Yoko! A big station with a practical purpose can provide so many atmospheric and beautiful photographs. I am impressed that it is so beautifully decorated. Like you, I love illuminations in the winter, when the nights are dark and long. When the lighting is done with care, it can lift the spirits and intrigue the eye. Have a happy Christmas and new Year!

  13. This Osaka station and the Osaka complex are quite incredible and stunningly beautiful. Your photos, as usual, are superb and a joy to behold and make me want to fly over there just to walk around as you did. But the first photo takes the prize as it is truly a work of art! Great post Yoko and I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season!

  14. Happy holidays and New Year 2017 to you Yoko - I know exactly how you feel about the problems in out world currently and especially too I have concerned for our young people.
I suspect thought that this has always been the case - when I was young there was the Cuban crisis, and JFK was shot, so I suspect that my parents had fears for the younger generation then too.
The lights we have today are so wonderful - I love LED lights they are so bright, colourful and low in energy - somethings do improve.

Fotos aqui, sempre espetaculares. Adorei ver todo este panorâma iluminado. Uma bela analogia você fez! Brava Yoko e, um feliz 2017!

  38. Undoubtedly the electricity is a great invention, providing that good use is done of it. I agree: seeing things like this ones, it is not difficult to think about the minds that they labour to light discoveries that, sooner or later, they benefit to the humanity and to the planet. The lighting that here you portray is spectacular and your not less extraordinary images.
